Tips that cost you extra

On tiered pricing, a tip added after the card is authorized can push the sale into a more expensive tier.

How we handle itGuests pick the tip on the terminal before the sale goes through, so it rides on one clean transaction.

The card leaves the table

Walking cards to the back slows table turns and makes guests nervous.

How we handle itHandheld terminals take tap, chip and the tip right at the table and print the receipt there.

Rewards cards marked up twice

Premium rewards cards already carry the highest interchange, and tiered pricing adds a surcharge on top.

How we handle itOn Premium you pay their actual interchange with no markup. On Hybrid, guests paying by credit cover it.

Pricing for restaurants & bars.

Most checks are paid on credit cards, so Hybrid lets guests cover their own card cost while you only pay on debit. Where surcharges aren't allowed, Zero does the same job with a posted card price.

Questions we get from restaurants & bars.

All questions

Can I keep my restaurant POS?

Often, yes. We work with most point-of-sale systems. Tell us what you run and we'll confirm before you switch anything.

How do tips work?

Guests choose a tip on the terminal before paying, or you adjust it at close, depending on your setup. Tips settle with the rest of your sales.

Can restaurants add a credit card fee?

It depends on your state. Surcharges are banned in Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts, and California doesn't allow a separate surcharge line. In those states we set you up on Premium or Zero instead.
